About Jane’s Calamity

Hi. My name is Jane Roper and this is my insanely eclectic substack. I write about being fortysomething, sweating through my pajamas every night, being a parent to twin teenagers (but not really the teenagers themselves or they’d KILL ME), being married, being a writer, failing at things, mortality, having too much tupperware, and whatever else pops into my small head.

I’m the author of three books, including THE SOCIETY OF SHAME, a bunch of personal essays, and some crappy short stories. I have been blogging since 2006, first on my own, then for Babble.com (RIP) and then on my own again. Now I am embracing the disruptive and transformative paradigm (as I might be forced to write in my advertising/marketing day job) of the “Email Newsletter.”

Why subscribe?

When you subscribe, you get full access to my newsletter and archives. Every new edition goes directly to your inbox. (The “Promotions” tab, specifically, if you have a Gmail address—which is sort of annoying.)

Maybe you’ll occasionally laugh or feel less alone. Maybe I will become rich and famous, but probably not. It’s all good. I just love writing this stuff—and having you read it. So, thank you.

Oh, and if you want to help support my work, you can upgrade to a paid subscription. But no pressure. You’ll get the same content regardless.

What’s Substack?

It’s where the cool kids write. You, too, can be a cool kid. To learn more, visit Substack.com.
