As usual, yes, yes, yes to it all—with an extra high five to those squishing Mammogram Mamas. Gotta love em. And Letters from a Moock? Twist my arm to read more (thanks to these new progressive lenses).

Mammogram today--can't wait to see how old the technician is. I agree, I think these techs tend to be older women.

I'd say "enjoy" but that's not really applicable to mammograms. :-D

Yeah - I have a doctor who is probably age 37 now but was 32-33 when I started working with her. I knew that she was young when I signed up with her a few years ago, and it was definitely a bit disconcerting at first. But she is caring, enthusiastic, doesn't rush through appointments and specializes in working with people like me. Five stars.

And for what it's worth - I find that most of my middle-aged clients who have kids out of the house are a heck of a lot happier than when the kids were in high school. For most, empty nest middle age is a pretty fun time.

OMG yes on the doctors. Have they asked you whether you have problems with your balance? That happened for the first time after I turned 50 (which JUST HAPPENED SO BACK OFF) and I was like, what????? These are the questions they ask my mother. But also yes on the mammogram techs. They are reassuringly older than me. Also if you go to a gyn specialist, they may be older (I want the lady giving me hormone replacement to have actually needed it and understood that when you begin the day sweating as you get out of a cold shower it might put in you in an understandably foul mood). What was I saying?

Loved this! And gosh are you right! I'm a tad older than you, so I've been noticing this longer. I didnt have kids, but mu nieces both have 2 children, which are my "great-nieces and nephews"!! Wha,,,,? so unfair--the whole grand thing gets skipped when dealing with nieces and nephew apparently. I'd prefer applying the cousin method, call them, my nephews once removed and such... So wait another 10 years or so & be sure to get a light in your bathroom that points up from below, at least slightly. The dark bags that started in the last couple of years... ugh! And how has my pants size gone down with a little weight loss, but I can't wear the same size tops anymore? I have extra body where there was no extra body before! And dang if Id on't talk like an old lady now and then with my fellow middle-aged but advancing toward/passing retirement age, "When we were kids, our parents taught us to be respectful toward our elders." Hahahahahaha--not in this age of narcissism and congress folk who are young as our doctors and don't know how to spell, control their drinking in public, or members of the exec branch who can't read anything with 4=syllable words... Whatever. I am with you as well on how to face and sally forth in the coming socio-political era, may it be brief as a pet rock fad... Enjoy being alive, appreciate a lot, cultivate my own best qualities, and share compassion and kindness wherever I can/am. Keeping my head down, while looking up. Namaste and all that. Thanks for a relatable post!

Wow do I feel this! Getting a pap smear while my GYN describes how much his college has changed since "my day" and whether my daughter should apply -- that was something else. Happy new year to all of you and congrats to Alastair and the kids for so much happy news to end the year.
